Withdrawals may be voluntary or involuntary.

    • Voluntary Withdrawals:
      • A student may drop before the schedule adjustment period ends using myBlueRidge or WebAdvisor.
      • A student wishing to withdraw after the schedule adjustment period should contact his/her instructor to complete the withdrawal. Faculty should withdraw the student using Colleague (Datatel). Instructions for the process can be found in Appendix A.
      • A student cannot voluntarily withdraw during the final 25 percent of the semester; students will receive the grade earned after that point in time. Instructors should maintain accurate attendance by documenting attendance each week in the Web Attendance tracking system.
    • Involuntary Withdrawals:
      • Students who register for a course and do not attend classes before the census period had ended must be dropped by the instructor, Instructors should use Colleague (Datatel) to complete the drop, being sure to enter the Last Day of Attendance (LDA); in addition, instructors must enter the LDA into WebAdvisor.
      • Any student who accumulates an excess of 10 percent of the contact hours for the course must be dropped by the instructor. Instructors should use Colleague (Datatel) to complete the drop, being sure to enter the Last Day of Attendance (LDA); in addition, instructors must enter the LDA into WebAdvisor.
        • The instructor may make exceptions to this policy in cases of extenuating circumstances such as serious illness or job transfer and award a grade of W during the final 25 percent of the term; however, these exceptions must be approved by the appropriate dean and the Vice President for Instruction.
