3.21.1 Professional Development

  1. All full-time Blue Ridge Community College employees shall be responsible for participating in professional development activities. Adjunct faculty are also encouraged to participate. Planning, scheduling and evaluating professional development activities for the College will be the responsibility of the Professional Development Committee (refer toSection 2.21.1 Standing Committees) with input from vice presidents and deans. Competency evaluations will be used to gauge the effectiveness of activities.
  2. Full-time employees are encouraged to participate in a minimum of 15 hours of such professional development activities annually. Part-time employees are encouraged to participate in a minimum of 10 hours.
  3. Enrollment in a curriculum or continuing education course approved by an employee’s supervisor or an approved off-campus professional development course or workshop may be considered as a professional development activity.
  4. Professional development activities will be reported during an employee’s annual employee evaluation process.
