Instructor Absences
Each instructor is expected to be in attendance and on time for all of his or her classes. In the event the instructor cannot meet the class or classes, the instructor should immediately contact the department chair or dean so that accommodations can be made for the class or classes. All missed class times must be made up in one of the following ways:
Arrange for another instructor to cover the class or classes (this can be arranged through the department chair/dean).
In the event of an emergency or last-minute illness, instructors should notify the department chair or dean of the inability to meet the class and leave instructions for a substitute. The chair or dean will attempt to locate someone to meet the class. The minimum requirement for a substitute instructor is to take roll, collect homework, and give students assignment(s), if applicable.
Provide special outside assignments, above and beyond the regular planned assignments, to be completed by students individually, covering the materials missed. (Examples: Extra math problems, extra papers to write, extra lab assignments, extra library research, etc.)
It is the responsibility of the instructor to obtain advance approval through the department chair or dean for any class schedule changes (time, location, or frequency of classes). If the students and/or instructor wish to change class meeting days or times for the semester, all students and the instructor must agree to this change unanimously. The instructor should then complete a Schedule Change Request form via the BRCC SharePoint intranet.
