Attendance

Students are expected to attend class regularly. The College policy specifies that students must attend courses regularly in order to receive maximum benefits from the program offered and for maintenance of a satisfactory academic record. Two tardies may constitute one contact hour absence. Students are normally dropped after they have accumulated a combination of excused or unexcused absences exceeding ten (10) percent of the scheduled class contact hours for the semester. Each instructor is expected to provide the attendance policy in syllabi.

Class rosters are available in WebAdvisor and Colleague. On the first day of class, instructors are to verify that everyone attending is registered. If students are not listed, and they do not have proof of registration with them, students should be sent to Student Services.

Henderson County Early College High School (HCECHS) and Career & College Promise (CCP) Students are expected to follow the same class attendance schedule as all other BRCC students. Only under the following conditions will the College deviate from this policy:

  • If the public schools closed early, set a delayed schedule, or canceled school due to threatening weather conditions, HCECHS and CCP students dependent on transportation provided by the public school system are not penalized for not attending classes. Any such absences should be included in the determination of a grade for participation of which class attendance is a part. However, the responsibility of making up class work rests entirely with the student, and it is the student’s responsibility to communicate to the instructor that they are dependent on public school transportation.
