The College may provide full or partial tuition assistance funds for full-time employees to attend Blue Ridge Community College classes in either Curriculum or Continuing Education, contingent on the availability of funds. The employee must receive prior approval from the immediate supervisor and appropriate Vice President before enrolling in the class.
The following conditions shall govern the approval of an employee’s request for tuition assistance and enrollment in the course:
- The employee must complete a Request to Take a Class Form at least two weeks prior to the beginning of the class for each curriculum or continuing education class each semester and submit the form to their supervisor.
- Full-time employees seeking tuition assistance must ensure the course is job-related to qualify for the benefit. Employees may be reimbursed for the in-state tuition amount of the course.
- Attendance during regular business hours will not count as work time. If the class is scheduled during regular working hours, the employee must obtain written prior approval from their supervisor with the plan for managing missed work time. If approved, missed work time must either be made up or covered using leave time, as approved by the supervisor.
- Upon receiving tuition assistance approval, the employee must complete the student enrollment process.
- The employee is responsible for any additional costs associated with the class, such as fees, books, and supplies.
- The employee will initially pay tuition for the class, and be reimbursed for the tuition if they earn a C or higher or P (Pass) for the course.
- All requests are subject to budget availability.
