  1. All benefits-eligible employees may use a maximum of three (3) Sick Leave days in case of a death in the employee’s immediate family.  For purposes of this Policy, “immediate family” means the employee’s spouse, parent, child, sibling, grandparent and grandchild. This also includes all step, half and in-law relationships.

  2. An employee should notify his/her immediate supervisor when a death in the immediate family occurs.

  3. Any leave taken beyond the three (3) days must be charged to vacation, floating, bonus or leave without pay.

  4. Any days beyond three (3) days of bereavement leave must be approved at the time he/she initially notifies their immediate supervisor.  If leave is taken beyond the three days of bereavement leave, the employee and supervisor must ensure that the employee’s job duties are adequately covered.
